Lawson sat down on the bench with a sigh. He opened his book and tried to resume his reading but was having trouble focusing. Usually he liked to review what he was having the class read but today his mind couldn't grab onto the words' meanings. Things were still tense between him and Ellen after the whole incident at Evelyn's office. He rubbed his eyes and blinked, trying to refocus his vision. He could do this.
His thoughts wandered to his students and he remembered how Emma had been improving for awhile, but after the break her grades and work began to dwindle again. She'd hurry out of the room before he had a chance to talk to her and he didn't want to call her out and ask her to stay in front of the whole class again. The other kids didn't need to concern themselves or make fun of her. But soon he'd email her if he didn't see her today, and he'd ask to talk to her again. He and Emma's other teachers were told by the principal that she was close to getting expelled, and Lawson didn't like that.

Emma was having a not so good time today. Multiple teachers talked to her and told her that if she continued to not complete her work, then the school would have no choice but to expel her. If she got expelled then she would have to go back to juvie. She couldn't go back to juvie but she had a really bad break and if really affected her work and she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. After her encounter with Liam over break, she knew he was watching her every move. She knew he knew where she went to school. And that scared her. Which was why she was having trouble focusing in school.
Emma headed out of her class and started her long journey across the court yard. Every time she had Mr. Andrew's class, she ducked out of the class before he could stop her and talk to her. She knew he was probably disappointed in him and she knew that he could tell that he was closely watching her and he could tell she wasn't paying attention in class like she had been doing before the break. Emma saw Mr. Andrew's sitting on a bench. She ducked her head down, and acted like she didn't see him and she hoped he wouldn't see her but she had a feeling he would.

Lawson looked up from his book and looked around the quad. It was a beautiful day and he smiled as he watched students spending time outside. It reminded him of his college years and he found himself lost in memory for about five minutes until a familiar figure caught his attention. Was that Emma? He looked more closely and saw that it was. Good, now he wouldn't have to email her. He closed his book and trotted over to her. "Hi," he said with a small smile. "So now I don't have to email you… What's up?"
He doubted Emma would fall for his innocent act. Of course he was innocently inquiring as to what was up and he wasn't trying to lecture her, but he wanted to make sure she'd listen to him.

Emma hoped over and over again that Mr. Andrews would ignore her and wouldn't stop her to talk to her. She knew that he of all people would be disappointed in her after she told him she would do her best to bring up her grades. She wanted to do her best, she really did, but she couldn't help but have her mind on other things, like what happened with Liam. Maybe it would be a good idea to talk to Mr. Andrews about what happened with him, if he wanted to hear it that is. Most teachers don't really care about personal problems, even though he told her how he cares about her and wants her to do well in school and succeed.
Emma looked up at him as he approached her and then she looked back down at the ground. "Hi," She said softly with a weak smile. She knew he was trying to make small talk with his next sentence. She shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing really. Just getting ready to go home I guess..." She whispered softly. Maybe he just wants to talk to me and he doesn't know about what has been going on. Maybe the principal hasn't had a chance to talk to him. Of course she knew that he knew about her situation and what's happening to her. She just hoped that he wouldn't be as mean to her as her other teachers had been. She had enough mean to last her a lifetime.

Lawson could see something was bothering Emma, and he had a feeling he knew what it was. "Listen Emma, the principal informed all your teachers that if your grades didn't pick up soon you'd be expelled. You don't want that, do you? I definitely don't want that for you. You're a bright girl and you deserve an education." He wasn't going to be blunt about it, but it seemed like that was the only way to be.
"Did you run into Liam over the break? You can tell me, you know."

Emma heard what Mr. Andrews said and she bit her lip. So he did know what was going on, he did know that she was close to being expelled. She heard what he asked and she shook her head. "No... I don't want that," She whispered. She definitely didn't want to be expelled but she didn't really feel like doing her school work. She didn't feel like she belonged. Everyone at school was happy. Everyone at school was going on like nothing was wrong, but Emma wasn't happy. There was something wrong in her life and she couldn't tell anyone.
Emma heard what he asked and she stopped short, looking at him. Did someone tell him? Did Liam somehow make his way into the school and get in contact with Mr. Andrews? Emma bit her lip and she looked around, to make sure she couldn't see Liam, since she knew he was always watching her. She looked back up at Mr. Andrews, her eyes shining with unshed tears that she's been holding in for a while. "H-He's been watching me... he knows where I go to school, he knows where I live. H-He followed me into the mall and..." Emma shifted awkwardly. She didn't know how to tell him what happened next. How was she going to tell her male teacher that Liam followed her and dragged her into the family bathroom in the mall and after fighting with him to get away, he pinned her to the ground and had his way with her? That he raped her again, for the second time.

He nodded. "Good, I'm glad. No one wants to get expelled." When Emma looked at him with a terrified expression, he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Emma, I know what you're thinking. I merely guessed correctly. Your behavior was similar to that of last time when you admitted why you weren't doing well in class and that was the first time you mentioned Liam. I merely pieced the two together." His eyes even followed hers and he looked behind him. He wouldn't put it past this kid Liam to be spying. He listened as Emma explained what happened and his eyes narrowed.
"And what? Emma." His voice was firm. If she was about to say what he suspected, he needed to make a plan. "Do your parents know anything?"

Emma heard what he said and she bit her lip. She really didn't want to be expelled. She knew the consequences of her getting expelled and honestly, in her opinion, it wasn't really worth it. If she got expelled that meant that she would have to go back to juvie and she hated juvie and it wasn't a fun place for her to be. She was going to, at all cost, try to stay out of trouble. When Emma felt him place a hand on her shoulder, she tensed up a bit at the motion. It wasn't that she thought he would do something, but it was just that fear. She heard what he said and she looked up at him. She really did trust him and she knew he would protect her at all cost.
Emma heard what he asked. She shifted on her feet and blushed bright red. "H-He followed me towards the bathrooms. He dragged me into the family bathroom. I-I fought to get away from him but he's too strong. H-He, you know... r-raped me," Emma said wiping her eyes as tears flowed from them. She heard what he asked and she shook her head. "They don't know about Liam at all. I haven't told them. I don't want them to look at me differently..." Emma felt her chest tighten as she saw Liam out of the corner of her eye.
ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: That sounds familiar. I used to be that way. I still am, but I've learned to let go a little.

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Alec is too good to me, how did I deserve him. I'm such a perfectionist that I am afraid to screw up

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: Everyone screws up. I've screwed up so many times I can't even keep track, but you just have to pick yourself up and learn to forgive yourself which can be the hardest thing to do
Sept 18, 2013 22:28:38 GMT -5
EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Thank you so much Ellen. I know Alec is there to encourage me, but sometimes I feel he's put me on this great mother pedestal. I'm afraid of screwing up.
Sept 18, 2013 22:25:29 GMT -5
ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: I wouldn't worry too much Emma. You're very maternal, something I never was, and I managed to do it alone. If you ever need to talk about parenting, I'm always here
Sept 18, 2013 22:10:52 GMT -5
EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): I'm just worried about being a good mother. Since my own mother is no longer here to advice me. I just want to do her proud *nervous look*
Sept 18, 2013 22:09:25 GMT -5
EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): well I think Alec will be worried when it comes to that age. He'll probably buy a shotgun and ward off any boy who comes a courting.

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: -laughs- you don't have to worry about that for a while. I told Victoria when she was going into sixth grade, but I think it also depends on the child
