Summer. There was something really invigorating about the season, and Joey absolutely loved it. The warm weather allowed him to go outside and enjoy the fresh air, and no school meant he had more time, however, he managed to secure two decent jobs. During the week, he worked at the local bookstore at the mall. He loved it. Being close to so many books and talking to people who loved to read on a daily basis was heaven to him. Plus he got to make a little bit of money which was always nice. On the weekends, he worked his usual job at an art gallery. It saddened Joey, knowing that this would be his final year as a high school student. Yes, he was extremely excited to move on and experience college life, but at the same time he was going to miss his carefree days. Joey understood that the day he accepted his diploma at graduation was both a beginning and an end, and he also knew that college and adulthood required so much more responsibility. Instead of dwelling on it too much, however, Joey was determined to enjoy his final weeks as a 'kid.'
The young man woke up bright and early, ready to go to work. He took a quick shower before getting dressed, and went downstairs to eat breakfast with his mother, step father and step sister. As of late, Ariel was starting to open up a bit more, and they were on much friendlier terms now than at the beginning. He was happy about that, and he could tell his mother was pleased that their relationship was improving. The fact that the two of them were going to part for college on good terms was certainly a happy thing. Once he finished up breakfast, he said goodbye to his family and left for work.
Believe it or not, Joey loved having a step family. He knew many people who had parents who remarried that hated their step family. Joseph just wasn't like that, and the fact he actually had more than just his mother was wonderful. Yes, the boy loved his mother very much, but he never knew his father, and having a man around was nice. Plus, he really liked having a sister even if they had started off on the wrong foot. That reminded him to talk with his step sister sometime soon. With graduation and his job, the two of them needed to catch up. Joey didn't even know what her college plans were.
As soon as he arrived at the mall, he exited his car and made the short trek to the bookstore. He smiled at his boss, and immediately started stocking the bookshelves. It was tedious, but he liked it in an odd way. Once that was done he did some inventory until it was his lunch break. Joey didn't really eat all that much during his breaks. Usually he had something small and a cup of coffee so he could read or write. Today was no different from any other day, so he sat down at a table and took a few sips of coffee before cracking open a book.
