Claudia listened to him as he spoke. He was talking about the type of man he wasn't and the things he couldn't do. She felt like joking to him and saying that he was being so negative. She did not know why he was saying these things, but she had a feeling that he was trying to hint to her that he wanted to insert himself into her life--maybe permanently. She inhaled deeply, somewhat nervously, and continued to play with the button of his shirt. She was listening to him, but it would seem that she wasn't. She breathed deeply and slowly before looking at him.
"People can learn," she told him quietly. She was trying not to be specific or hint that she would be the one to teach him. She stopped fiddling with the button of his shirt and brought her hands back to herself. What else was she supposed to say? "Anyone can learn anything if they try... it just takes the want-to..." she had ignored his question about him being the noise she was looking for. It wasn't that she wasn't considering it--she was just avoiding having to answer.
Claudia nodded her head when he said she should suggest that Kennedy major in art history. "She thought about it... I think she's still considering it." She nodded her head and shifted again. It was uncomfortable trying to lie on a couch with another person. She finally got comfortable again. Her dress was still allowing her legs to be exposed. He mentioned that she should pay her daughter. Claudia nodded. "I do," she stated. "And if I don't give her money, I buy stuff that she needs. It's not even about money. I don't want her to feel like she has to put her life on hold for me or her sister." She looked at him and gave a small shrug. It was the truth. she already felt like she was doing that, and Claudia hated it.
