It had been a long day and Lawson was exhausted. He couldn't wait to just crawl in bed next to Ellen and sleep away. He loved the fact that he no longer had to sleep alone. It really was something special when you are able to come home to the love of your life and cuddle next to them. Okay, so that might not be the manliest thing to some people, but oh well. He was so close to being able to go to sleep; all he had to do was brush his teeth after he got undressed.
For awhile when they first began dating, Lawson would wear a night shirt to bed out of courtesy. Unless there had already been a reason his shirt was off...
But now he knew that Ellen liked it when he slept without a shirt, so he did just that. He took off his tie and quickly unbuttoned his light blue dress shirt, shrugging it off with a relieved sigh. Next came the pants. Now he was ready to brush his teeth and wash his face.
After all that was done he started brushing his hair. During this whole period Ellen had been complaining, as usual, about liberals. Lawson had been happy to know that he and Ellen agreed on politics, but he never knew she was this passionate about the topic. She gave him a run for his money.
"Yes dear," he said monotonously as he ran the brush through his hair. But something caught his attention and he squinted and leaned forward to get a better look in the mirror.
His heart stopped for a moment as he stared at it. Right there, on the side of his head in a place that no one else could see but was so obvious to him, was a grey hair. No. Not possible. He was too young! He was sure he'd interrupted Ellen as he yelled, "I HAVE A GREY HAIR!"
His eyes were wide as he touched it, careful not to pull it. It wasn't true that if you pull one grey hair out two more grow in, but right now Lawson couldn't be too careful. "How could this have happened!?" He never thought he'd be the type of person to freak out over this. In fact, he thought he'd accept it with grace and dignity. But now he had Ellen and for some reason he wanted to look young for her, even though she didn't think he looked old. Still, she looked so young to him that he felt it was only fair to look young, as well.
