As a mother, Ellen always wanted to provide the best for her children. The minute she got Victoria from the adoption center, she knew that being a good mother to her children was her priority. Before, her career had been her top priority, and she always thought it would continue on like that even after having children, but she had been wrong. Over time, her children became the force that kept her going. Everything she did, she did for her children, and she knew they didn't understand that know, but she hoped they would in the future. Perhaps she was emotionally disconnected, but she was fiercely protective, and willing to die for Victoria, Natalie, and Marcus.
So when she heard the words that left her son's mouth, her face went pale. Hearing him say he didn't want to live anymore, after she was willing to die for him as his mom left her completely speechless. It wasn't even really just that. All of them attended mass every week, and Ellen made sure to preach the importance and significance of life to her children. So she had no idea where he got the idea that his life was invalid and unimportant."You are not beyond help. Don't you dare say that," she said as soon as she could speak again. The tears were now beginning to spill out of the corners of her eyes. She wasn't crying, but she was pretty close to it. "Marcus, I love you. You're my son, my child, you can't do this to yourself. To me, to your sisters. I don't know who told you, or taught you that you were unimportant," she said, her voice cracking. "But you aren't. Sweetie, you have infinite value, and you have to see that. You have to. You have so many possibilities, and if you kill yourself, you'll miss out on so much."
