Today was a glorious day. In fact, it was the ideal summer afternoon, and Ellen couldn’t contain her smile as watched Lawson load up his car with his things. It was finally the day. The two of them were going to finally officially move in together, and Ellen really couldn’t wait. She sat in a lawn chair and issued him (slightly sarcastic) words of encouragement as he loaded box after box into both his car and her car. Since Ellen’s house was furnished, and they weren’t moving into an entirely new house, a moving van wasn’t really necessary. However, she had enlisted Marcus to help with the boxes because she wasn’t supposed to do any heavy lifting while pregnant. Once his apartment was empties out, Ellen they drove back to her house and began moving items into the house.
When she told her children the news, she got mixed reactions. Natalie was furious and didn’t want Lawson moving in, and she definitely didn’t want a baby. Marcus, on the other hand, was more difficult to read. He seemed to be excited to have Lawson around more permanently, but in regards to the baby she couldn’t really tell what he felt. Despite the fact Ellen had asked her daughter to be here to celebrate the move in, she huffed off, and Ellen really wasn’t going to chase after her. It was a big change, and she could understand her girl resisting it. As soon as the boxes were all inside the house, Ellen let her son go play outside with his friend. It was far too nice of a day to ask him to stay and help arrange the house. Plus, it would be easier without him in the way.
The woman smiled brightly at him and looked at all the boxes scattered across the living room. Where were they to begin? There was so much to unpack. ”We could start with the closet? That seems like the most logical place to begin,” she said, reaching for the lightest box to carry up the stairs. As long as she wasn’t lifting anything too heavy, she figured she’d be fine. When they got into her room she set the box down and opened the doors to her closet. She bit her lip and turned around, realizing how little space there was. It wasn’t that it wasn’t a big closet, it was, but Ellen surprisingly had a lot of stuff. Shopping was one of her guilty pleasures, and most of the items she purchased had never been worn. In fact, a lot of stuff still had the tags on. ”Um,” she said nervously before moving out of the way for him. Looking at her closet like this made her blush a bit. Her extensive blazer collection (one in every color), cardigan array, blouse section, pantsuits, dresses (most with the tags still on), endless cashmere sweaters, and of course her shoes made her look like the warehouse for J. Crew. ”Uhm uh. I really don’t know what to say,” she said. ”We’ll make room?”
