It had been a while since Alexis had spoken to Brooklyn. Frankly, she hadn't minded. What Brooklyn had done, it cut her to the core. It felt like she was being dug out from the inside. Like nothing that had happened mattered even a little. She knew what she was getting herself into. She knew what she was giving to her. She knew that she would hurt over it for a while -- but for some reason, she allowed it to happen. Sighing, the book was brought back to eye level, her hand running over the pages with care. This was her escape. A sliver of hope mustered in her chest every time that Brooklyn may be there, but she never was. And with each visit, a piece of that hope slowly fell away. With her eyes leaving the book again, Alexis peered out into the water, pursing her lips and sighing again.
Without much thought, Alex laid the book down and stood up, brushing herself off. Shoving it into her bag she quickly threw it over her shoulder and started off past the small lake that lay in the middle of the park. The trees by the south side were where she normally read. It helped keep her mind off of Brooklyn, for the most part. But this time, it failed. It was exactly a month since they had slept together. Exactly a month since Alexis had given her something she'd never be able to get back. She would lie about it, of course. To be truthful, she hadn't been involved with anyone since the ordeal. That was fine though. It was best that way. Right?
Finally, something to make this day better. The small ice cream stand was Alexis' savior. Smiling, she went up to the cart and ordered a small cone -- chocolate. It was her favorite. With her cone, she went off to sit on a bench under the shade of trees. It was nice out. Cool, but nice. It wasn't nice enough for her to run in the morning, but the evenings were perfect. Matter of fact, that sounded perfect to her. It was then decided she would come jogging tonight. Honestly, it was one of the only ways to completely get Brooke off her mind. Sure, she could say it didn't bother her, she could say she didn't care...but it drove her mad. Everything that had fallen apart between them had killed her. They -- she -- had laid everything on the line, and Brooklyn had wiped it clean.
"Fuck it." Alexis didn't really need the pain, but she didn't know what else she could do. Tossing the cone in the trash, she stood up and started to head off. Just as she did, she stopped in her tracks. You've got to be kidding me. Brooklyn? Swallowing hard, she let her feet carry her closer to the blond who was sitting out on a blanket. It's not her. Stop psyching yourself out. Calm down, walk away. Her feet wouldn't stop though. Nope. She was going to approach her. "Brooklyn? What...are you....why haven't...I..." Words weren't going to work today. Nope. They were going to fail her like everyone and everything else had. She couldn't stop staring. Hell, she wasn't even sure if she was still breathing.
