Why had she agreed to help someone move out of their dorm? Was the fifty bucks even worth it? Eh, probably; but now Ariel was exhausted and her limbs felt like jelly. It wasn't her blood sugar because she'd just had lunch and still felt this way, so she figured it was just because she'd spent all morning lifting heavy things in the heat. Now all she wanted to do was float in a nice, cool ocean and drift off to sleep. Thankfully the beach wasn't too far away and it was a Saturday, so that's just what Ariel could do today! Talk about being ecstatic; she couldn't stop smiling as she packed her beach bag with sunscreen, two water bottles, a book, and a small bag of peanut butter crackers and a small tub of cantelope and watermelon. Perfect beach snack! In Ariel's opinion, at least. Bananas would be even better, but she didn't have any.
She grabbed a towel with a beautiful image of a mermaid on it that she got a few years ago at a renaissance fair, grabbed a beach umbrella and chair, put on her sunglasses, then left and locked the door to her dorm. Once she got to the beach she put her chair down and then placed the umbrella so she could be in the shade. It was pretty hot out today and she didn't want to over heat, so the shade from the umbrella was perfect. If she wanted to work on her tan she'd just put her towel down in front of the chair and lay out in the sun.
Making sure her food was safe in the small cooler in her bag, Ariel went into the ocean and sighed happily when the cool water covered her from head to toe. She practically collapsed into the water and just floated on her back and looked up at the cloudless blue sky. What a perfect day. Thankfully she'd perfected how to float on her back; she'd always sink before. After spending about fifteen minutes just floating and drifting in and out of sleep, Ariel thought it would be safer to go back and sit in her chair and read a book. As much as she hated leaving the ocean (it was her second home, her being like a mermaid, and all), she knew she couldn't really breathe underwater and it wouldn't be good to fall asleep in the ocean.
She dried off just enough to not drip water on her book but she wanted to air dry because that kept her cooler, longer. She took a sip of her cold water and then took a few bites of her fruit and crackers before leaning back and reading her book.
I could finally crash again
