Clangs and bangs filled Addison’s ears as she searched the dining hall for a place to sit. She had already grabbed a salad and a cold Pepsi as she was dying to eat! She slowly looked around for a place to sit and was pleased to see one of her sophomore friends eating his lunch as well. Normally Addi would of decided to hit up Taco bell or KFC but she didn’t feel like walking all the way to get fast food since she hadn’t eaten at all and had been hammered the past few days with an essay on the stupid Boston Tea Party as well as math homework that she couldn’t even start to understand. Addison was a complete failure at math, it was her worst subject by far and over the past few days she had become frustrated with herself and her lack of ability to understand algebra.
Cyrus was in Addison’s grade and they had some classes together. She didn’t know too much about him. It was obvious he was blind but he seemed to be a really cool guy with great musical ability. She secretly loved to sing even though she would never tell anyone that, and she actually enjoyed the love of music that Cyrus had. She wasn’t sure how he would respond to her decision to eat lunch with him as he could be a bit of a jerk sometimes, but as she couldn’t find anyone else that she knew around the dining hall she decided that eating with him would definitely be better than eating all by herself.
She walked over to where he was seated and slowly sat down next to him. She opened her salad and poured ranch dressing over it before stating her presence. “Hey Cyrus. How are you?” She smiled to herself knowing that Cy couldn’t see her smile, and waited for a reply as she took a bite of her salad and popped opened her soda. It always amazed her at his ability to get around. He did most things just like everyone else around the school did, the only difference was he was blind. But that was fine with Addison, she never questioned him on how it happened or pitied him for something he couldn’t control. Plus she knew better. Cyrus could be a jerk sometimes, she had witnessed it a time or two but mainly she had seen the way to talked to other people. She had hoped he wouldn’t jump down her throat for trying to have a friendly conversation with him and a nice lunch but then again, you could never tell when it came to Cy. She wasn’t sure why he seemed to be so mean sometimes, but then again that’s probably why she had never taken the time to get super close to him. Even though she was as sweet as could be she had the bad habit of saying things she didn’t mean when people got snappy with her.
