"That's nice of you to say, but I am the lucky one." He wondered how long it would take Ellen to realize he was playfully trying to get the last word again. The tender moments Lawson shared with Ellen were the most tender moments he'd ever had in his life. Men wanted to be touched lovingly, too, and to cuddle with the woman they loved; despite what a lot of women thought. Back in his attorney days, all Lawson heard everyday from the women he worked with was how awful men were and that they were such liars and cheaters. He'd had to bite his tongue to keep from telling them that women could be the same way. There were cheats and liars in both genders, and Lawson had even said that once. It had shut the women up, but only for two days. Lawson kissed Ellen's nose when she scrunched it; that was too cute to ignore. He smiled when Ellen said she hoped the possible baby boy took after him. "I hope so, too. The world needs more men like me," he said with a wink. He never thought his eyes were anything special, but there was something in Ellen's voice when she talked about wanting the baby to have his eyes that made him feel like his eyes were something she liked about him. Just laying here with Ellen in his arms felt so right and he didn't want the moment to ever end. Hopefully there would be more moments like this in the future. His eyes were sad when he looked at her when she talked about not remembering happiness. As much as he was torn up about the fact that Gabriel had been married to the love of his life, he still didn't want to hear that the marriage had been rough. "I'm sorry to hear that…" He said softly. He would try even harder to help Ellen forget that pain and give her the happiest years of her life. Ellen's own misty eyes made Lawson's tear up and his heart swelled when he heard that he had brought love back into Ellen's life. "I am so happy to hear that, Ellen. You deserve to be loved. Actually, before I'd met you, I believed love existed for some, but I was so caught up in my work that I never really felt like I had time for it. Eventually I figured I would never fall in love, and that didn't really bother me. But after that night I knew I loved you. Boy, was that a rough time in my life; I thought I would never have you. I was ready to settle on the possibility that I would live alone the rest of my life because even though I dated a few times after you, I didn't feel like it would be fair to marry a woman I didn't really love. Then we found each other again and I'm hopeful again." He said, kissing her sweetly. He had noticed her flinch and wasn't going to ask what was wrong just in case it made her worry more, but something nagged at him and told him he should. "Ellen, before you spoke a few seconds ago, I saw you flinch. Why? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but if you need to talk I'm here to listen." He kissed her forehead and waited for her to respond. To make you feel my love |
