& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING
WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE
( and it never seems out of place )
[/center]The tiny ginger girl sat under a pink and white parasol. She knew it was cliched, relaxing on the beach this way. But she loved it. Even so early in the spring, it was still warmer than most of the beaches she's been to in her home town. Canada tended to be on the chillier side of things. Especially her town.
She was feeling a bit self-conscious, wearing an outfit she ordinarily wouldn't have worn. But her mother had bought the clothes for her, and so a small part of her felt obligated to wear them. She knew her mother meant well. She also knew that her mother wanted her to fit in. And she couldn't bring herself to try to explain that it might not be in the books for her to be normal. She was happy, and she was herself. Wasn't that enough?
She tugged her novel out of her pink satchel. She was embarrassed to admit what she was reading, so she'd tucked it into a pale green book sleeve. It was sometimes hard to tell others that she liked to read erotic novels. Especially at her age, people tended to be rather judgmental about it. When she didn't have it covered, she got comments from others about how she must be a slut.
That sort of talk bothered her. It wasn't that it was a lie, because she had slept around a bit. It was more that she didn't want to be that girl anymore. She knew she was intelligent. She got mostly A's, and occasional B's in school. Even in gym class, she never got lower than a B-. But she had led a sheltered life. Her parents had tried to protect her from the world, and subsequently she was naive. This was something she'd learned to admit to herself. She trusted too easily. And that led to all kinds of problems.
She sighed, reverting her thoughts to her book. She felt her face blush lightly as the scene turned warm. She loved these books. She could live vicariously through them. She'd always been to shy to tell others what she enjoyed in bed. But the books she read... They were full of intelligent, powerful women doing exactly what she wanted to do.
