Trouble, that's what Emma was in. Over winter break, Emma had a run in with her ex, Liam, and now she was in trouble with him. She was being followed a few days ago and she had been ignoring his calls and ignoring him for a while now. But now he was getting pissed off. He knew, somehow he knew, that she confided in her teacher and told him everything that happened between them. She was being threatened by him and there was nothing she could do about it. No one would believe her if she told anyone and that made her scared for her life. He watched her from the time she got up, to the time she went to bed and that was freaking her out. Emma had snuck into the main office and looked up the employee files and found Lawson's address. Sure it was a illegal and she could get into a lot of trouble if he told anyone but she hoped that he would help her.
Emma looked at her phone and she saw Liam was blowing up her phone with threatening messages. Emma packed a small bag of clothes and she left her house under the cover of darkness. She looked at the address she had of Lawson's and she knew exactly where it was. She had staked it out just in case something like this happened and she needed help. Emma looked behind her as she was walking and she saw the shadow figure of Liam behind her. She looked at her phone as he was texting her. She picked up the pace and ran up the stairs to Lawson's house. She banged on the door frantically. "Please answer the door... please...." Emma whispered checking behind her. Liam was closing in on her.

It had been a few days since Lawson and Emma had chatted in the park. He was really worried about her and hoped that Liam kid would leave her alone. If not, Lawson knew he'd have to talk to her parents. Right now he was in bed reading a law book when he heard a banging on the door. He jumped slightly and wondered who that could be at this hour. "Stay here," he told Ellen, taking off his glasses and closing his book. He quickly put on his black and red robe and went downstairs. When he opened the door his eyes widened. "Emma, what are you doing here?" That was obviously a dumb question.
He looked around and saw the figure of a man. Was that Liam? It had to be. Lawson glared before putting a hand on Emma's upper-back, ushering her inside. "Come in. Quick," he whispered. When Emma was inside he closed and locked the door. "You should be safe now." He doubted Liam would be stupid enough to try and get to Emma now. If he did try, Lawson would handle it. He noticed a bag with Emma and he tilted his head slightly. "You're not running away, are you?"
He immediately remembered Ellen and looked to the staircase. "Ellen, everything's okay. Just a student." Hopefully she'd fallen asleep. He looked back at Emma. "Do you want anything to eat or drink? What's going on?"

Minutes felt like hours to Emma. She was waiting for Mr. Andrews to open the door for her so she could have some coverage. "Come on... come on..." Emma whispered as she looked over her shoulder. When she saw the light turn on and she heard the lock click, she breathed a sigh of relief. She heard what he asked and she didn't have time to answer him. She saw him look around and she knew that he saw Liam as well. She felt a hand on her upper back and she quickly walked inside. Her heart was beating fast, tears in her eyes. He scared her. She felt so broken.
Emma heard what he said and she nodded hesitantly. She saw him look at her bag and she heard what he asked. She shook her head no. "I just needed to stay somewhere where he wouldn't find me... but he followed me," She whispered gripping her bag. She heard what he called up to Ellen and she bit her lip. She was intruding. She heard what he asked and she looked at the door, "I shouldn't have come. I'm intruding."

Lawson was relieved to hear that Emma hadn't tried to run away. "That's understandable," he said. He shook her head and ushered her towards the living room. "You're not intruding. Now tell me exactly what happened." But he really wanted Emma to have water or something; she looked exhausted. He told her to wait a moment and make herself at home while he went and got them some water. When he came back he handed her a glass and sat down, taking a sip of his own water.
He shook his head and sighed. "Emma, why don't your parents do something about this? I'm just your teacher; I can only do so much." He was glad she hadn't tried to handle the situation on her own. That would have gone downhill quickly. He glanced upstairs and thought of the guest room, but he wanted Emma's parents to at least know where she was. "Do your parents even know that you're off campus?"

Emma heard what he said and she bit her lip. He wanted her to tell him everything. She was already in deep shit with him for telling her teacher some stuff. She heard him tell her to hold on a moment. She watched him leave and then return with water. She took the glass from him and drank it greedily. She didn't realize how thirsty she was until the water touched her lips. She looked at him. "I-I haven't told him anything that's been happening... I don't want to burden them with my past or look at me differently," Emma said softly. She heard what he said. "I sent my moms a text and my foster brother a text to let them know I'm not on campus. But at this hour, they're asleep."
Emma sighed. She figured she may as well tell him what's been going on. "Liam somehow found out that I told you about what he's done to me. He's been following me and blowing up my phone with texts and calls. He's angry, really angry. He's threatening me and I've gone to the cops before, not this time around, but before and they don't believe me. No one believes me," Emma said quietly. "I'm alone in this whole thing with no one believing me. I'm scared Mr. Andrews." Emma looked at him, tears shining in her eyes. She felt her phone vibrate and she looked down at it. You better not tell him a thing or you'll regret it babydoll... Emma bit her lip. "And I can't go to my boyfriend because he doesn't know and I don't know how to bring it up to him."

Lawson figured Emma was thirsty from running all that way. He listened to her explanation and shook his head. "They won't look at you differently, Emma. It's not your fault, and they should know that." Lawson hoped Emma's foster family would understand, at least. If they were healthy and really cared about Emma then they'd want to do everything they could to help her. He wondered for a moment if Emma really did text everyone; maybe later he'd call them. When they wake up and see the texts, if they were smart, they'd know something was up.
A frown crossed Lawson's features when Emma told him what Liam had found out. How could that have happened? "You need to show the police Liam's text messages. They can't deny that." He placed a hand on Emma's shoulder. "I believe you, Emma. Wait, you have a boyfriend? Yeah, don't tell him anything yet." His eyes narrowed at Emma's phone and he held out his hand. "Let me see it. And tomorrow we are going to call your moms and go to the police station. But tonight you need to get some rest."

Emma heard what he said. "They're the first family that I've actually liked being around. That I felt like I really fit in with their family. They're been nothing but kind to me and showed me love and I'm just afraid that I'll burden them with my past. I don't want to drag them into it. The less they know, the better off they'll be," Emma whispered. She didn't want to get them involved in her mess with Liam. She knew he could make their life miserable. She hoped that he wouldn't go after Mr. Andrews. He didn't deserve any of it.
Emma heard what he said and she bit her lip. That is true. Text messages were cold hard proof of what he's been saying to her, but with her record.... who knows what they would believe. Emma heard him say that he believed her and she felt her heart swell. Someone believed her in this whole mess. Way back when she made the complaint about Liam, no one believed her, that she was just out for attention. But now someone believed her. She heard what he said about her boyfriend and she blushed but nodded. She couldn't tell him who because Franklin could get into a lot of trouble if they found out. She saw him hold out his hand just as another text came through. You're little teacher friend is dead to me. He's keeping me from getting what I want and I'm not happy... The next time you're alone.... watch your back sweetheart. Emma glanced at the phone before handing it over to Mr. Andrews. Tears were in her eyes and they spilled over the edges. He was really scaring her. He was never like this before. She heard what he said and she looked at where she was sitting. "If you want to give me some blankets and a pillow, I can sleep on the couch.

"Emma, by adopting you they signed up for knowing about your past. I can guarantee they know that you aren't the only child in the world with difficult problems." But only the family could prove all of that with their actions. Lawson knew it would be hard for Emma to believe until she was shown with actions. He read the two text messages and shook his head. There was the temptation to text back and say that he should watch his back but he knew that would only make things worse. "The best thing to do is ignore his texts." He would've told her to turn her phone off but she needed to keep it on so her family could reach her.
When he saw Emma crying he sat next to her and pulled her into a hug. "It's okay, Emma. You'll be okay. I won't let Liam get in the house and neither will Ellen." He chuckled. "Ellen will get to Liam before I do. She'll chase him out of the house with a baseball bat, most likely." He let her go and shook his head. "No. We have a guest bedroom upstairs. There's a TV there and everything but I think you should try and sleep as soon as possible. You need to get your strength up. Want anything to eat?"

Emma heard what Lawson said and she looked at him. "Actions speak louder than words. With my past record with the cops, I doubt anyone will believe me. After all the very first time he took advantage of me, they didn't believe me because he came to my rescue, pretending to be the worried brother about his little sister," Emma spat out angrily. She really wanted to be the crap out of him for doing this to her and causing herself so much problem. She watched him read the two texts and she heard what he said. "I've been doing that all day and it's making him madder than all hell." Emma wanted to ignore the texts but it was so tempting to text him back to get him to shut up.
Emma felt him hug her and she buried her face into his shoulder. The warm comfort of his hug meant so much to her. She heard what he said and she believed him and trusted him. She heard what he said and she cracked a small smile and giggled at the thought of someone chasing Liam with a baseball bat. That would be pretty funny to watch. She heard what he said about the guest bedroom and she bit her lip. "Thank you for being so nice to me and not kicking me out. I know how inappropriate this is but you're the only one who has really been nice to me and who I trust..." She said softly. She heard him ask if she wanted something to eat. "Maybe an apple? Or some chips?"

Lawson couldn't remember if Emma had told him before about her history with the cops. That might not work too well in her favor at first but soon the cops would have to see that they couldn't be biased. He wondered if Liam had any past charges with assault; anything, really. It was disgusting that Liam pretended to be the caring older brother when he had been the one to take advantage of Emma, but Lawson knew the cops really should have looked into it more. "I know it's hard to not text back but if you do you'll only give him more power."
He was glad he'd been able to make Emma laugh. She was a bright, beautiful girl and it was hard to see her be in pain. It was hard for Lawson to see anyone in pain, but especially young kids who didn't deserve it. He wished he could help them all but he knew that was impossible, so he'd help the ones he could. "It's no trouble," he replied when Emma thanked him. There was the slight anxiety he felt because he knew this was walking a dangerous line, but then again a student was coming to a teacher for help. And their relationship was simply that: student and teacher. "I'm just sorry I'm the only one. You deserve having more people be kind to you." He smiled at her. "How about both?" He went into the kitchen and grabbed an apple and a snack bag of chips. He handed them to her and sat down across from her again. He wasn't going to leave her down here by herself, and he needed to think of what more he could do tonight. "Why don't you let me call your parents again?"

Emma heard what Lawson said and she looked at him. "He already knows that he has control over me. He's had it since he took advantage of me and he uses it to his full potential and it pisses me off. I just wish I could beat the crap out of him to let him know how me makes me feel," Emma snapped. He made her feel worthless. Like a piece of crap. It hurt her and made her feel little and like everyone was out to get her. "But I'm sure you don't want to hear about my pity party."
Emma heard what he said and she shrugged. "I've learned to just do things on my own and to keep things bottled up inside and not depend on anyone to take care of me or help me. Because in the end, it'll only end in disappointment," Emma whispered softly. She tucked her feet under her legs and took the apple and chips from him. She heard what he said and she frowned and nodded her head. "Okay..." She said softly. "Maybe one of my moms will answer the phone. If not you can try my brother. He's more than likely up right now."

"But right now he's probably second-guessing just how much control he has since you've been ignoring him all day. I don't blame you for being angry. What he did wasn't right and he will be punished for it; justice will be served, believe me. But I think you know deep down that if you were to beat him up you would be stooping to his level. Just by going to the police again and getting more people involved shows him how strong you are. It's not a pity party, Emma, don't worry. It's good to let your feelings out. If you keep them inside you'll snap one day and make matters worse for yourself and others." He wondered if Emma was seeing a therapist. It would be good for her. "You're too young to do everything on your own. I'm sure your parents want to help you." But he couldn't blame Emma for worrying about being disappointed since she was a foster child and was disappointed and let down so many times. Lawson couldn't imagine a life like that and he was grateful for his parents. He sent up a quick thank you to his Maker before reaching for the phone. He asked Emma for the number and dialed it in. Neither mom answered so he tried her brother.
"Yes, this is Lawson Andrews, I'm one of Emma Miller's professors at Wentworth Academy. Is this her brother I'm speaking to? Okay. Listen, Emma has run into some trouble with someone and the only place she could go that was close enough was my place. She's here now and she's safe but I wanted to let you know what was happening."

Emma heard what Lawson said and she knew he was right. She looked up at him, "I don't want to go to the police alone... will you be there?" Emma asked him. She didn't want to be at the police station alone because she needed someone who would believe her and convince the cops that she was telling the truth. If he could be there for her then that would be so helpful. "It's happened before and it caused me to get in trouble with the cops and got me locked up. They didn't even bat an eye or question my confession. Then it led me to my probation and thankfully my probation officer believes me when I told her what happened. She knows that I wasn't lying but I haven't heard from her in a while which is weird..." Emma made a note to contact her sometime this week.
Emma listened to Lawson talk on the phone. "Is she okay? Look I'll be right there. Tell her that everything will be okay," Brandon said as he hung up the phone. "What did Brandon say?" She whispered. Out of her foster siblings, she was the closest to her brother Brandon. He was her rock and he actually believed her when she told him what happened between Liam and her and how he's been making things hard for her. "Is he coming? I can't go home... Liam knows where I live. I'm going to stay here tonight please?"
Post by LAWSON RAYNARD ANDREWS on Jul 21, 2014 16:22:10 GMT -5
"Of course I will. If your moms are comfortable with that. I am a lawyer, but I'm out of practice. But that doesn't mean I can't tell the cops when they're doing something wrong. I can also help your moms find the right lawyer if it's needed." Unfortunately, it most likely would be. "Did you ever get a restraining order out on Liam?" He shook his head when Emma said the cops didn't believe her or question her confession. What was wrong with some of these officers? "I'll make sure that doesn't happen again. Well now you have two people on your side, and I bet you'll have three more with your family." He gave her a reassuring smile.
"You got it," Lawson said before Brandon hung up. He put the phone back on the hook and looked over at Emma. "He said he'd be right there and he wanted me to tell you that everything is okay. It is, Emma, and it will be. It might take awhile, but it will be worth it. Of course you can stay here if Brandon says it's okay. He can stay, too, if he wants. Then we can all head to the police station in the morning."

"I'm sure my moms will be okay with it. They don't know what's been going on so they will probably be grateful that someone knows what's going on and will be able to explain things for me," Emma said softly. Emma knew her moms wouldn't have a problem with it at all but she could be wrong in that too. She looked at her teacher. "I never had the chance too and I didn't know how to get one. No one explained it to me and I didn't feel comfortable talking about it to anyone at the time. I probably should file for one but I doubt he'd listen to it and then it'd be like the 'concerned big brother' all over again. Lying if he gets caught." Emma knew he was a dick and would do anything to get out of trouble with the cops.
Emma heard what Lawson said and she felt a faint smile appear on her face. "He's really protective of me. He wants to make sure I'm okay," Emma said softly. She heard a knock on the door. She got up and ran to the door and opened it. She hugged her brother tightly and he backed them into the house and into the living room where they were. He looked at Lawson. "Thank you for letting her in and hiding her from that asshole. If he had been out there I would have pounded his face into the ground," Brandon said wrapping his arms around his baby sister. "I've been trying to get her to go to the cops since the first time she mentioned it to me but she's stubborn." Emma looked up at him. "I can hear you ya know...." She muttered.
ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: That sounds familiar. I used to be that way. I still am, but I've learned to let go a little.

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Alec is too good to me, how did I deserve him. I'm such a perfectionist that I am afraid to screw up

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: Everyone screws up. I've screwed up so many times I can't even keep track, but you just have to pick yourself up and learn to forgive yourself which can be the hardest thing to do

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Thank you so much Ellen. I know Alec is there to encourage me, but sometimes I feel he's put me on this great mother pedestal. I'm afraid of screwing up.

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: I wouldn't worry too much Emma. You're very maternal, something I never was, and I managed to do it alone. If you ever need to talk about parenting, I'm always here

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): I'm just worried about being a good mother. Since my own mother is no longer here to advice me. I just want to do her proud *nervous look*

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): well I think Alec will be worried when it comes to that age. He'll probably buy a shotgun and ward off any boy who comes a courting.

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: -laughs- you don't have to worry about that for a while. I told Victoria when she was going into sixth grade, but I think it also depends on the child
