Alex played with his hands nervously as he walked across campus to Victoria's dorm. Tonight was Valentine's day. Alex was incredibly nervous. He wanted the night to go flawlessly, but he knew that the chance of that happening was slim. But he was going to do his best to make tonight magical. Victoria was the first girl he cared about like this, so he was new to the whole romance thing which made him nervous but excited at the same time. He'd never gotten the chance to plan a special Valentine's evening for a girl. Vic was his first, and he was going to make sure it was good.
He had written her a song. It was the first piece of music he had personally written in months. Surprisingly, when he sat down to write it, he didn't struggle a bit. Victoria seemed to be the inspiration he was searching for. It was funny how he had been looking for so long, and the thing that inspired him to write was right in front of him. The song was perfect in his mind. Probably the best song he had ever written. It was simple and understated, but so powerful at the same time. He really hoped she liked it.
When he got to her door, he took a deep breath before knocking. He was dressed in a suit and tie for once and his curly hair was combed back. He had a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates. But those were only trivial to the main attraction. Alex had made reservations at a nice restaurant, and then he was going to take her to a piano recital. He knew the pianist, and he was going to play and dedicate the song he had written for Victoria.

Valentine's Day. Normally this would be a day where Victoria wouldn't know how to feel. She'd be torn between being happy about her single life and wanting a boyfriend or at least a date with someone. Guess what? Today was her first Valentine's Day with both. She couldn't believe she was finally able to join her fellow girls in having plans on Valentine's Day! Her smile never left her face as she fixed her hair and makeup, and her roommate told her she was beaming. When she slipped on her dress and looked in the mirror, she felt like a princess. She loved dressing up formally, but Alex wasn't a fan of it. However she had a feeling she'd get him to be able to dress up even more and even come to not mind it so much. She could use her charm… Her eyes sparkled and soon there was a knock on the door.
Victoria had been nervous the whole day but told herself that was normal. It wasn't like any normal day and that was a good thing. It felt like nothing could bring her down tonight. When she opened the door, her breath was taken away. Alex looked stunning as usual in his perfectly fitted suit, and she was a sucker for a man with hair that was combed back. She smiled brightly and shyly kissed Alex on the cheek before taking the flowers and chocolates. "These roses are beautiful, thank you. And I might even share my chocolates." She winked at him before inviting him inside. "I just need to put these in a vase and then we can leave." She grabbed a vase and hurried across the hall to the bathroom before returning with a vase full of water. She put the roses inside and gave them some plant food before returning to Alex. "You look very handsome, Alex. You know I love a man in a suit." She giggled before grabbing her purse and following Alex to his car.
She still couldn't believe this was happening. But it was, and she was determined to stay sober tonight. She wanted to remember this forever. Actually, she didn't feel like having a drink at all tonight. Was Alex her motivation to get sober? It seemed like it, but she didn't want to put that kind of title on him.
ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: That sounds familiar. I used to be that way. I still am, but I've learned to let go a little.

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Alec is too good to me, how did I deserve him. I'm such a perfectionist that I am afraid to screw up

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: Everyone screws up. I've screwed up so many times I can't even keep track, but you just have to pick yourself up and learn to forgive yourself which can be the hardest thing to do

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): Thank you so much Ellen. I know Alec is there to encourage me, but sometimes I feel he's put me on this great mother pedestal. I'm afraid of screwing up.

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: I wouldn't worry too much Emma. You're very maternal, something I never was, and I managed to do it alone. If you ever need to talk about parenting, I'm always here

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): I'm just worried about being a good mother. Since my own mother is no longer here to advice me. I just want to do her proud *nervous look*

EMMA GRACE DANVERS (GOODMAN): well I think Alec will be worried when it comes to that age. He'll probably buy a shotgun and ward off any boy who comes a courting.

ELLEN ELIZABETH WATSON: -laughs- you don't have to worry about that for a while. I told Victoria when she was going into sixth grade, but I think it also depends on the child
