It was a cold Saturday morning in Rhode Island. Adrien had the day off from the research facility, and was planning on going into town for the day. He had a few errands to run. Christopher was with his friend for the day, so he figured now was the best time to get them done. Being a single father had its ups and downs. He liked being free to raise his child the way he thought best. But it also made life difficult. Being Christopher's sole parent, he had a lot of responsibilities and hardly any time for himself. It was rare for him to get a day alone, and when they occurred, he took full advantage of them.
Adrien took the car to the post office so he could mail a few letter out and then went grocery shopping. When he finished that, he planned on spending the rest of the late morning and afternoon at home. On his way home, though, he passed Wentworth Academy. That was where James went to school. He had been meaning to call him, but he hadn't gotten around to it. A part of him knew James probably wouldn't take his calls to begin with. Instead of going straight home, he parked the car in the visitor lot and walked to the main office to get a guest pass.
Adrien wandered around the campus of the school. It was a decent campus for the price he was paying to send James there. His stepson was probably getting a better education here than at the local public school. Not many students were outside, but that wasn't surprising. Cold, New England winters were far from pleasurable. As he walked around, he hoped to run into James. If he didn't see him soon, he'd try inside. Perhaps the cafeteria. After all, boys had to eat eventually.
