she's not looking for you to fix what's wrong
Books were scattered across the table and normally she would care about making a mess, she couldn't focus on anything but her latest assignment. Curse those damn people who claimed senior year was a breeze! This essay was easily one of the hardest things she had ever worked on, especially since her entire future depended on the stupid thing. A college essay for Yale... It had to be perfection! Her mother told her to not stress about it when they talked on the phone last night, but she was way past the point of stressing and well into the terrible territory of panicking. "Come on, Ev, just a few more paragraphs until you reach eight pages... You can do this!" A quiet pep talk rolled off her tongue as she gazed down at the paper before her. She had a minimum of eight pages and while she wanted to go up to twelve, she was already stuck on just reaching the required number!
Why was she having such a hard time trying to reach this? She was a writer for god's sake! This was her forte yet she couldn't even continue a damn thought without getting frustrated. It was pathetic, especially for one of the top students of her class. Just plain sad, Evelyn!
A waitress wandered over with a pot of coffee and a mug in hand, a look of sympathy crossing her pretty features. "Trouble with school work, honey?" Her voice was sweet and this caused the brunette to look up, awkwardness creeping into her system at the lack of words to say. God, she couldn't even form sentences to speak! How was she going to get into Yale?! With a deep sigh, her shoulders slumped and she looked utterly defeated before the waitress. "I... Yeah... It's a college essay and nothing is working the way I want it to..." She glanced back at her work, heaving another sigh from her lungs. The sound of a mug being placed before her caught her attention and so she glanced up once more, eyes widening at the sight of a steaming cup of coffee.
"Just relax, dear! Enjoy a few cups of coffee and don't worry about creating the perfect essay... You'll be better at it if you're not stressed." The waitress flashed a warm smile before wandering to the next table of customers, leaving Evelyn with a good piece of advice and a delicious cup of coffee. She brought the drink to her lips, taking a sip and savoring the hot and slightly bitter beverage. It somehow managed to keep her slightly grounded, especially after a stressful day or week of school. How the waitress knew... She would never know, but the girl was a great person for it! With newly found confidence, Evelyn set her drink down and began to work again, this time a content smile finding its way to her lips. Perhaps it wasn't going to be such a bad day after all, especially with some new inspiration for this essay!
