He'd only been here for one night and now he was about to go to work. Most people would want to stay at their motel for a day or two to relax before jumping into a case, but Lothar didn't care. The sooner he started the sooner he would be able to work alone again. The feeling one would usually get from a lack of sleep didn't bother Lothar. He was used to that feeling by now after twelve or more years of feeling it. Nightmares plagued him constantly and every time he woke up it would take an hour for him to be able to fall back to sleep. Sometimes he wouldn't be able to sleep again at all and he'd work on cases until dawn.
He got into his car and started it but sat staring at the wheel. He needed to make himself move, but the knowledge that he wouldn't be working alone made him pause. His boss hadn't told him anything about his partner and that irked him. The more he knew about his partner the better he might feel about having one. As he sat there trying to will himself to move, his twitch started up. Sometimes it was annoying, other times he didn't even realize it was happening. He sighed in annoyance because right now he knew what was happening. He forced himself to put the car in reverse and he pulled out of the parking lot.
The motel was only about five minutes from the office so he got there on time. He shut the car off and walked in, immediately greeted by the chief of police. The man led him to the office of the person who was to be his partner and when he knocked on the door Lothar found himself looking around the office. It was smaller than the one in Providence, but Wentworth was a smaller city. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with it or anything to criticize, so Lothar returned his attention to the door. When it opened, his frown deepened. It was a woman.
