LIKES
- theatre - Athena is your everyday triple threat. She loves theatre and makes sure she's skilled in acting, singing, and dancing. This is what she wants to do for the rest of her life, why wouldn't she train her hardest? You can usually find her in every school production and competition play, in addition to community theatre.
- music - It pretty much doesn't matter what genre it is, Athena will listen to it. The only things she tends to stay away from are rap and country. She does like some underground hip-hop and pop country, but that's about it. Her favorites tend to be pop-punk, indie, and pop music, whether it's in English or Greek.
- Netflix - If she's not rehearsing, Athena's watching TV. She spends 90% percent of her free time on her Netflix account. She's well-versed in all things The Office, old Cartoon Network shows, and cult-classic films. Right now, she's pretty addicted to Freaks and Geeks. Who doesn't love James Franco?
- the Internet - That other 10% of Athena's free time is spent on the computer. In fact, she's usually either liveblogging or livetweeting whatever she's watching. Twitter, tumblr, Facebook, Pintrest, Wanelo... she has an account on everything. She has a couple different tumblr blogs--a hipster blog, a fandom blog, and black and white blog, etc. Sadly, Athena also hoards urls. w1ldcard is hers!
- traveling - In reality, Athena's only been to two places outside of Wentworth: New York City and Greece. She goes to Greece every summer and went to New York once for her birthday. However, she loves getting out of Wentworth. Athena loves being in Greece (even if it is at the height of an economical crisis!) and is just dying for summer as the school year closes so she can go.
DISLIKES
- math - Math is Athena's worst subject. She hasn't gotten an A in math since 5th grade. She goes in for tutoring from her teachers almost every morning and there have been no results. She's tried everything, but to no avail. At least her parents understand, even if colleges won't.
- When People Type Like This , ! - Believe it or not, this actually arouses quite the reaction out of Athena. She spends a lot of time on the Internet and sees this type of thing almost every time she logs on. Every once in a while, she'll be with someone and completely startle them by tossing her laptop from her lap to her bed and letting out a sigh of frustration. Whoever she's with is surprised to learn that it was triggered by someone's typing style. It's one of her weird quirks.
- thunderstorms - This is a less of a weird quirk and more of a phobia. With all the storms she's been in in her life, you'd think she'd become desensitized to them, but she hasn't. Every time there's a thunderstorm, it usually results in her under her covers, shaking and crying. It wasn't a phobia triggered by anything in her past that she's repressed, it's just that she thinks What if?. What if someone she loves is driving during a storm and gets in a fatal accident? What if her dog runs out during the storm and gets lost? What if lightning strikes her house? What if lightning strikes her?
- drawing - Athena used to draw all the time. She would doodle little cartoons in her notebooks and went hard at art for class projects. It was very clear her art had a heavy Japanese influence, even if it wasn't exclusively a manga or anime style. However, someone in middle school saw her drawings and insulted them, calling her a bad artist and saying that she was too white to draw Japanese art. Needless to say, she hasn't drawn since and hates it.
- her family - Athena, way deep down, loves her family, but usually she can't wait to be rid of them. They're loud, proud Greeks. They never stop talking and there's a lot of shouting across the house in Greek. Athena tends to hole herself up in her room to avoid it all.
STRENGTHS
- listening - In a family of talkers, Athena's a wonderful listener. She's one of those people you can go to and rant for hours to and she won't judge you for one bit of it. She might offer one or two pieces of advice after you're done venting, but other than that she tends to not interrupt and lets you talk.
- triple threat - "Triple threat" isn't really a strength, but Athena is sure good at what she does. She can belt in the basement and sing into the rafters, bring you to tears with a monologue, and is well versed in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and lyrical styles of dance. When it comes to theatre, she trains hard.
- languages - Athena is bilingual. She's fluent in both English and Greek, and she's talented with other languages. She's taken both Spanish and French over the course of her schooling and has a knack for learning and speaking. Her accents are spot on. She hopes to become at least trilingual (it's on her bucket list!) and is focusing on Spanish right now.
- trivia - Want to know a random fact? Athena can give you one. She's great at memorizing completely useless facts that have no relevance to her life. Athena can tell you all about the Academy Award winners of 1972, but she can't spit back math forumlas to you.
WEAKNESSES
- stubborn - Don't try to change Athena's mind, it won't happen. That's one of her Greek traits; stereotypically, Greek women are very stubborn. Once her mind is set on something, it's hard to change. It can be something as small as wanting to go to McDonald's for lunch and refusing to go anywhere else.
- aggressive - Athena isn't aggressive in the way that you'd think; she doesn't go around hitting people. She's more verbally aggressive during debates and arguments. It's usually just heat of the moment comments, but it's a bad habit of hers.
- sensitive - It doesn't take much to set Athena off. Little things will rock her emotions. The thing is, she doesn't get mad. She just cries. If you make one little snide comment to her, there's a good chance she'll freak out and tear up. You'll feel really bad for making the poor thing cry. Also, don't yell at her. There's a 100% chance she'll cry.
- cooking - Nice Greek girls are supposed to be able to feed families of 20. Athena cannot. The best thing she's ever made was pre-packaged ramen noodles. Her sister's allergic to eggs, so one time she tried to bake her a cake by omitting the egg whites. It completely fell apart and her mom gave her a five-minute lecture on how you can't forget the eggs in the cake and how she needs to learn how to cook and how will she ever find a husband? Needless to say that cooking is a weakness.
PERSONALITY
HISTORY
RP EXAMPLE
Athena sighed as her mother called for her. "Coming, Ma!" She stopped staring out the window and shuffled over to her mother behind the counter of the Yiasou Cafe, a.k.a. the restaurant that her parents owned. She hated working there, but everyone once in a while her parents would throw open the door to her room and start yelling about how they're low on hands at the restaurant and how they need her to come in. She didn't work for money, which sucked, but she got free food out of it. Of course she didn't mind free pastisio and mousaka. But, right now she couldn't eat. A group of teenage boys had walked into the restaurant and they needed another server on short notice.
Athena approached the table and started giving the standard speech: "Yiasou welcome to the Yiasou Cafe..." before she realized that they all went to her school. "Oh. Hi guys." They snickered a little. "So, do you guys want anything to drink?" The boys ordered and Athena went back to get their drinks. Her mom stopped her as she was pouring a Coke. "Athenamou, are any of those cute boys Greek?" her mom asked. She shook her head. "Ma, if they were, you would know them and be going on about their families to me." There was a beat of silence before her mom nodded and let Athena go on with her work.
She brought the drinks back to the table. "What can I get for you guys to eat?" she asked, pulling out her notepad and a pen. "Uhh, what's moose-ah-kuh?" one of them asked, squinting at the menu. Athena replied, "Ah, it's mousaka. It's layers of cheese and meat and eggplant. Like lasagna, but without pasta. It's sooooo good!" She got the same snickering from before. The boy who asked about it said, "Mmm, I'll try it." Athena smiled at him. Even though some people like to tease her about her family's menu ("Spanakopita? It looks like dog shit if the dog ate a ton of grass"), it made her smile to know that there were a few people out there that appreciated Greek culture and were willing to dip into it.[/ul]
