It was odd. After the three hour drive from his school back home, Kris was actually relaxed. He half expected to return home furious and upset, unwilling to think of all the things that he was going to do and say to his little sister when he reached his destination. But an hour in, he realized that he had little reason to be mad with her so early in the trip. He had the rest of his high school year, and hers, to be mad.
Right now, he would have to get to the bottom of things because he was completely lost in everything that happened while he was gone. He knew it was a bad idea to disconnect himself from his parents the amount of time that he did, but his mom insisted that he stopped calling in daily and enjoyed his life. Now look where he was. Rushing home, going to see his little sister after so many years, and returning to the place that he never wanted to leave in the first place.
But the question was: Was he ready for all of this? In just a few months, he would be a complete adult, and until then (and even after), he would be the guardian responsible for watching his little sister. Could he handle the pressure? After all, he was only seventeen, not even a full grown adult yet. He still loved to party, he still had to finish school. If it wasn't for how he presented himself in front of adult supervision, he probably wouldn't have even been called for to watch over Kennedy. But who else could? After being sent to rehab and being released (as he was told), she needed someone to stay with. And who else but the perfect brother?
What about what he wanted? Did he always have to be the image to come in and save people when things went wrong? Did he always have to be the heroic prince in shiny armor? Apparently that was the case with his parents. Like he wanted to leave Kennedy. Like he wanted to leave his other family members - like Ryker. Like he wanted to leave the friends he made in Rhode Island. He never got to say what he wanted, and that was most likely what his parents loved most about him. He was so obedient.
Not anymore though. He couldn't be; for his own benefit and happiness. He had to step up and get what he wanted. He wasn't going to deny looking after his sister, of course, but from the day that he returned - forward, he would live his life how he wanted to. Not worrying about what other people had to say about it.
Pulling up to the campus, Kris drove around to a parking space, and prepared himself for the inevitable. Kennedy didn't know that he was returning, neither did Ryker. It was a total surprise, besides, they were all younger, they didn't need to know grownup business anyways.
Throughout the past few days, he has been setting up his applications and entrance into Brentwood, so he was already registered as a student. Not having to worry about signing into anything, he headed straight for his sister's dorm. He gained permission to know her room number, and entrance into the building without hassle, due to the circumstances. This was going to be fun.
Once he reached her dorm, he knocked on the door, waiting to see the face of the girl he haven't seen in years.
