Victoria was a mess right now and she wasn't sure if she could face Alex at the moment. He was supposed to come over for movie night but Victoria wasn't ready to face the world again. She'd gotten a DUI two days ago and her mom had to pay one thousand dollars to bail her out. Actually, Lawson had paid it. But her mom was now furious with her and Victoria didn't know what to do. She just needed someone to listen now, and her mom and Lawson probably wouldn't understand. They'd just see a drunk, like Gabriel, and want nothing to do with her. She couldn't blame them. She wanted nothing to do with herself, either. Everything in her life was finally coming apart. It didn't happen gradually. No. She'd just snapped. Her mind was racing and she was shaking from the need of another fix. Just one more drink to calm her nerves. That was all she needed.
Her roommate and suitmates were out for the weekend so she had the whole place to herself, and she wondered if she could go find some alcohol somewhere. But a knock on the door made her jump and she debated for a few seconds on whether or not to open it. She could do this, though. She was used to pretending. So in her sweatshirt and sweatpants and hair pulled into a messy bun, Victoria slowly opened the door. Usually she wasn't obsessed with how she looked in front of Alex, but right now she was sure she looked like a hot mess and he looked well put together, even in jeans and a t-shirt. He was standing there in all his innocence, and Victoria choked. What was she doing to him? He was a wonderful person and she shouldn't be dragging him down into her sickness. "Alex, I can't do this anymore," she said weakly. She motioned for him to come in and then she shut the door. She bit her lip to keep it from quivering. "I think it's best if we stopped hanging out…" She had to push him away. It was the only way he'd leave her.
