Ellen looked down at her new schedule and furrowed her brows. This all had to be some sort of a mistake. Never before had she taught college government, AP World History, and college economics. There was just no way she was teaching those three added classes along with World History, Global Affairs, and General History II. That left her with lunch and first period free, and Ellen just couldn't function with that amount of workload, so she figured it was a mistake. The dean must have combined her schedule with another teacher's on accident, or else Ellen was screwed. Majorly screwed.
She knew she was good at what she did. After all, she had a PhD in International Affairs, a Bachelor's in History and an Associate's in Political Science from Yale. She was over qualified for the job she currently had, but that didn't give the Dean permission to just make her teach every single class in the history department because of her qualifications. That was entirely unfair to her, and she knew she simply couldn't do it. She had children to take care of, a relationship, and a baby on the way. She really didn't need more classes to teach. She already had plenty of classes to teach.
That's why she assumed this had been a mistake. The dean didn't know about her pregnancy, but she sure as hell knew about her other children. Plus any sane person would realize teaching six classes, some of which were separated into different sections, was too much for one woman. Most teachers only taught three maybe four classes a day. Ellen like to pretend she was superwoman, but that just wasn't the case. Even she had her limits. A part of her wondered if this was a sick joke Dean Roth was playing on her. The two of them didn't get along, so it made sense.
It had been two days since she got the schedule, and she knew she needed to go in to school and meet with her boss to get this straightened out. She woke up bright and early Monday morning and got dressed in something professional. She ate a simple breakfast and grabbed her bag and made sure to put her new schedule in it before hopping in the car and driving to the school. She exited her car and walked into the administrative building. She flashed the secretary a smile and asked to see Ms Roth. Her heart was beating as the secretary showed her into the office. Elle prayed to God this schedule wasn't final.
She walked into the Dean's office, a courteous smile on her face. She figured it would be in her favor to be polite and professional. "Ms Roth," she started as she moved further into the room. "I received my schedule in the mail two days ago, and there must be some sort of a mistake." Ellen reached into her purse and fished out the piece of paper and handed it to Mariana. "I seem to be teaching three added classes which leaves me without any prep periods save for first and lunch," she said.
