Fury filled her like never before in her life. It had been a week since she had caught that lying son of a bitch in bed with another woman, and her heart felt like it had been broken in two. They had fought, but that was nothing new. They seemed to be doing a lot of that lately, and honestly Ellen didn't know how much longer she could take this. When they weren't fighting, they didn't talk. And when they tried to be nice, it always went awry. One of them always managed to say something wrong, and then it only escalated from there. She hadn't slept in weeks and it showed on her face, it showed in her work. She needed a break from him, from this living hell.
She had purchased tickets to see Macbeth at the Long Wharf. It had gotten extraordinary reviews, and she knew a few of the performers who were in it. The man playing Malcolm had attended Yale with her. They weren't the closest of friends, but they knew each other well enough, and she had promised to see him in it. She was more than excited to finally have a night to herself where she could breathe and think.
Getting out of the house wasn't difficult at all. Gabriel was at work, and Mary Andrews had agreed to watch over the children. That woman never passed up the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. Even though Ellen didn't get along with her all that well, it was still helpful especially since she lived so close to New Haven.
Elle got dressed up for the first time in a while, and threw on her winter coat. The Connecticut air was cold during the wintertime, and Ellen didn't want to get sick. When she was ready, she made sure she had her ticket and drove to the theatre. She parked and walked into the building and saw a familiar face. Lawson. Her brother in law. The two of them had spoken a couple times before, and she enjoyed the majority of their conversations. She closed the gap between them, a forced smile on her face. "Lawson Andrews?" she asked with a laugh. "What in the world are you doing here? Well, obviously you're seeing The Scottish Play, but I mean what are you doing in Connecticut, and why didn't you call and tell us you were going to be in town?"
