After a nice lunch with his good friend Jessica, Lawson was waving goodbye to her as he watched her leave. That woman was the female version of him, and some might say that wasn't a good thing. However, she was there to lend a listening ear when he needed to vent, and vice versa. She was like a sister, and Lawson cherished her. They even fought like siblings over everything, including the check this afternoon. Finally Lawson had won, but only because he'd "promised" to let Jessica get the next one. Yeah, he'd try and pay for the next one.
As he stood to leave he noticed a face so familiar that he only needed a second to process it. Suddenly Lawson felt like he was in a dream and he wasn't sure if he was seeing things. What was in that sandwich? Across the cafe stood Gabriel Andrews, Lawson's older brother. The man he'd lost contact with ten years ago and never heard from since. What in the world was he doing here in Wentworth? It couldn't be a coincidence… Had Gabriel found out where he was living? Or worse, had he found out about him and Ellen? That thought caused the blood to drain from Lawson's face and his hands and feet went numb.
As much as Lawson wanted to talk to his brother (because despite everything he still cared about him and missed him), he also wanted to keep him in the past- eleven years ago, specifically. Because everything was perfectly fine back then and nothing complicated was going on. For a fleeting moment Lawson thought about trying to get away unseen, but two things stopped him. One, Gabriel was his brother. And two, probably the most important reason: he was blocking the exit. Mustering up all his courage and bringing out his charming self (which was getting harder and harder the more he was with Ellen because she helped him feel more confident), Lawson smiled and began walking over to Gabriel. It felt like one of the longest walks he'd ever taken.
When he finally got there, he looked at the back of Gabriel's head for a moment before taking a quick breath and speaking. "Gabriel? Is that you? I thought you'd fallen off the face of the earth, but I see I was wrong." He made sure to sound cheery and happy, despite the fact he was shaking slightly inside. For now Lawson would pretend to feign ignorance on the topic of Ellen.
